Omotesando Koffee is unarguably the most talked about coffee shop in Japan, some would say the world. And no trip to Japan seems complete without having visited this hidden gem.
Originally, it was supposed to be a pop-up shop, run by owner Kunitomo-San. It didn’t take long at all before the word got out, queues started forming on the weekends and design magazines started heavily featuring this place. Now, fortunately for all of us – Omotesando Koffee is here to stay.
It’s a difficult place to find, which only adds to the charm. It’s in the beautiful area of Omotesando, but you’ll have to zigzag through the back streets to find it. The entrance is so secluded that some people give up – please don’t. You enter what seems to be someone’s home – there is a small garden with a couple of benches, and you step up and enter the little big world of Omotesando Koffee.
Espresso-based drinks are made, one by one, with so much care. The cube-like setup, the barista and his movements as well as your drink itself could be easily mistaken for art, in its most unpretentious form.
