Glitch is the new coffee shop in Tokyo that people are heading to, as it reflects what a lot of industry-folks are excited about these days.
You have your coffee sitting within hands reach of the in house roaster. It’s so nice to see and marvel at the machine that so many of us have never laid eyes on before. It’s another step in the process consumers can slowly begin to understand. Suzuki-San, who spent many years being trained by Paul Bassett (Australia), is the owner here, and he is very well respected by fellow baristas/ roasters.
Espresso based drinks and pour over coffee are on the menu. And regular cupping seminars and coffee related events are held here. Check out their facebook page for more details.
Perhaps the first of its kind in Japan, the roaster at Glitch is a shared roaster. Fellow independent coffee shops come along to roast a batch here to then serve to their customers at their own coffee shop. The future is exciting in Japan, as other baristas / roasters are rarely considered rivals. It seems that, on the contrary, everyone is working together here – sharing ideas like craftsmen.
