2017 new café openings
Want to check out a new coffee shop in Tokyo? Here are some interesting ones that have opened so far in 2017.
AMAMERIA, GAKUGEI DAIGAKU. Open Jan 21, 2017.
Amameria Coffee Roasters, one of Tokyo’s most respected roasters, has opened their second shop with a new roaster. Their new coffee beans shop is located in a quiet little part of Meguro-ward, about a 15-minute walk from Gakugei-Daigaku station.
UNIQUE POINT: Their extensive line up of coffee is there for you to smell, taste and talk about with the friendly staff.
KOFFEE MAMEYA, OMOTESANDO. Open Jan 27, 2017.
Koffee Mameya (formally Omotesando Koffee) in such a short time has already built a cult following since opening in the original location. They’re only serving espresso and pour over coffee to better highlight the flavors of each coffee, but their focus this time is helping you brew better coffee at home. And when it’s your turn, they’ll spend time with you to find about your preferences and suggest the right bean from the majestic display of beans behind them.
UNIQUE POINT: Check out the custom built espresso machine, the first of it’s kind in Japan, where the espresso groups have been integrated with the bench top.
YOUR DAILY COFFEE, KAMIMACHI. Open Jan 27, 2017.
Nakamura-san, formally of Be A Good Neighbor, has opened up YOUR DAILY COFFEE nearby Kamimachi Station on the Tokyu Setagaya line. It’s a cute little store, which opens from 9AM where you can get your daily coffee (except on Mondays). Their high quality coffee has been roasted by AND COFFEE ROASTERS (Kumamoto) and Woodberry Coffee Roasters (Tokyo).
UNIQUE POINT: Baking is also done in house, so be sure to pair up your coffee with a lemon cake or brownie!
PASSAGE COFFEE, TAMACHI. Mar 19, 2017.
Anyone working in the office-district area of Tamachi finally has a specialty coffee shop to call home. Passage Coffee has been set up by Shuichi Sasaki, 2014 World Aero Press Champion, formally of Paul Bassett, with beans roasted by 4/4 Seasons in Shinjuku. Enjoy Sasaki-san’s AeroPress and warm hospitality!
UNIQUE POINT: High five to Passage Coffee as they open daily from 7:30AM, against the trend in Japan. We’re hoping more and more cafes in Tokyo follow suit!
UNISON TAILOR, KICHIJOJI. Mar 30, 2017.
Unison Tailor, on the second floor of the newly renovated Coppice Mall nearby Kichijoji station, is a friendly coffee stand with seating around the side. An extensive coffee menu is available, offering coffee roasted by three excellent roasters – Single O, Glitch and Ritual.
UNIQUE POINT: There’s a whole table dedicated to half a dozen record players. Buy vinyl next door at HMV (or bring your records from home) – and play them while you sip on your coffee. Pretty hip!
