We went to a reception party at Blue Bottle Coffee Kiyosumi-shirakawa Roastery & Café!
Good Coffee has been previously introducing Blue Bottle Coffee Kiyosumi-shirakawa Roastery & Café and they will be opening on 8:00 of 6th of February!
We’d like to present you the reception party which was held on 3rd of February in commemoration to its opening.
The reception party in cheer and applause had begun with the opening of door of the first shop in Japan, Kiyosumi-shirakawa by the founder of Blue Bottle, CEO James Freeman who visited Japan.
The white building with its outstanding trademark of blue bottle has area of about 750.5 square yards with cupping room, training room, roasting room, office, kitchen, and café established side by side. It resembles the shop in Webster Street in Oakland! (Photo: shop at Webster Street)
CEO James Freeman greeted us saying “I’m pleased to open a shop here in Japan! I would like to provide delicious coffee for Japanese people!”
Pleasant looking staffs, baristas in apron and denim shirt had courteously hand brewed 3 different kinds, 2 types of single origin and a blended coffee. A barista who was working in a shop in San Francisco is now in Kiyosumi-shirakawa. We were surprised by the fluent Japanese.
I may add that, Good Coffee team had flown over to San Francisco around the same period and couldn’t interview the local barista who is fluent in Japanese as scheduled for staff had already came to Japan (laugh).
The espresso machine used in coffee bar is “Spirit”.
The original feature of this machine is La Marzocco and has been customized by Kees van der Westen from Holland. It’s a must-see original machine with logo used in Mint Plaza, W.C. Morse at Blue Bottle!
You have choices, either espresso machine or paper filtered brew for the coffee and either single origin or blended beans for the beans. You can also enjoy sweets such as orange cake, cookies and etc. Please enjoy them with delicious coffee!
A roasting demonstration was held and we were able to see changing color of beans.
Roasting machine is by Loring Smart Roast, Inc. in Santa Rosa, CA, the same roaster, which is a large-scale roaster being used within Japan is by Takamura Wine & Coffee Roasters in Osaka.
It’s no doubt that Blue Bottle Coffee representing coffee third wave will make massive coffee boom in Japan! Please visit to taste this delicious coffee!
The second shop is scheduled to open on 7th of March in Aoyama, close to Omote-Sando, a good location holding 70 seats, fulfilling the contents of food which is going to be the largest scale café in the history of Blue Bottle Coffee. Looking forward to how the new coming café is going to be like!
